Are you there?

Are you there? is an infinite, generative film. Set in a pedestrian city street, characters lives randomly generated. Their conversations are never quite the same, making the film both never-ending and fleeting, as a moment that is missed cannot be reproduced. An AI language model emulates phrases provided by the author. The inhabitants of the city are worried about work, cooking dinner and the arbitrary nature of their lives. The long for closeness and do not quite know how to find it. While infinite versions of their stories assemble, people reach for connection within the randomness, forever. There must be something to be found within the entropy of human relationships.

This project was developed for and financed by the 2023 Base Camp Exhibition at the Locarno Film Festival.
